Once a book contract is signed, the rush for blurbs is so rushed. Especially for a debut collection. As if the years of creating would still depend on green lights, even after publication. As if each book were a traffic intersection. As if it still needed whistle blowing and frantic arm gestures. One of the things I loved about working on Jessica Murray’s debut collection happened when we decided to cover up the famous blurbs with tree branches and leaves. We aren’t trying to be mysterious. We are just trying to be.
